September 11th was a busy day! We saw transient orcas kill and eat a harbor porpoise in the morning and in the afternoon we found four humpback whales in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. We spent the majority of our time with two adults. One of them was known as "Bart" and he was swimming with a friend circling around off the south end of Vancouver Island. Near the end of the trip, "Bart" and friend surprised us! They swam right under our zodiac and then fluked on the the other side. Wonderful!
"Bart", with his funky dorsal fin, and friend surface side by side:

It's been a while since we've had an encounter with humpback whales. This afternoon was a great treat!
